Let the Celebrating Begin! Miles' (Long) Birthday Weekend is off to a Smashing Start.

Miles will turn seven years old this coming Tuesday (2-22-22), so we decided to take the entire long weekend to celebrate. Why not? You only turn seven once, right? Miles got to choose how he wanted to spend the weekend. We hope you'll enjoy following along with us as we celebrate.

Brunch this morning was fruit salad, cheesy scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, and cherry crumble coffee cake. The birthday boy was ecstatic.

After brunch we headed off to Descanso Gardens for a lovely afternoon (it was a perfect 78 degrees and felt like a lovely Spring day in the middle of February).

The blossom trees (Cherry, Apple, Dogwoods) were stunning.

As were the Camellias.

It's not a day at Descanso without climbing their favorite 300 - 500 year old Oak tree.

My precious twins, turning 9 1/2 years old tomorrow.

Descanso had camellia displays and exhibits everywhere. There was even a camellia competition, featuring blooms grown by various home gardeners from the Los Angeles area. After viewing these stunning specimens, I was inspired to grow more camellias at our house.

After Descanso, we headed to see my mom and grandmother at the cemetery, bringing my mother's favorite flowers. We had a nice visit and enjoyed sharing stories with them about our recent Valentine's Day and plans for Miles' upcoming birthday.

We ended the day with an early dinner at the Tam O'Shanter, one of my mom's favorite restaurants (and now one of my kids' favorite too). We all enjoyed our delicious meals, but Miles most especially enjoyed his personal English Trifle with a birthday candle on top.
